New Worlds, for a world free of exploitation

New Worlds, for a world free of exploitation

108 women survivors of trafficking have been involved in New Worlds in the first year of the European project dedicated to combating the sexual exploitation of women. Partners from 7 countries participate in the project: Soleterre (Italy), Coop Lotta (Italy), FTDA (France), IASIS (Greece), ISMU (Italy), EILD (Greece) and SURT (Catalonia).

In Catalonia, New Worlds includes legal advice, psychological support and employment assistance for the participants. This year, 12 women have received psycho-social support; 42, legal advice; 35, have been involved in orientation activities to local services and 36, in individualized professional training. In addition, 75 operators have received training and support in the legal field. You can read factsheet (ENG).

One of the outstanding initiatives has been the implementation of digital literacy group sessions with the aim of familiarizing women with the online services available, showing them the procedures to carry out procedures effectively, and providing knowledge about the main sites websites relevant to your day-to-day life.

Partners have created an effective cooperation mechanism for the socio-economic insertion of trafficking survivors, through exchanges of experiences and practices during three important transnational meetings in Italy, France and Greece, and with regular virtual sessions. These exchanges and consultations with key local actors have allowed the creation of two materials: Non-conventional psychotherapeutic and counseling tools for Women Survivors of Trafficking and Effective Measures for the Reintegration of Women Survivors of Trafficking.

Tool for effective reintegration measures

There is a general lack of data on the effectiveness of reintegration programs for women survivors of trafficking. To meet this gap, the New Worlds project developed Tools on Effective Measures of Reintegration, which promotes a standardized approach to monitoring the results of reintegration programs. The toolkit is aimed at professionals and services working on integration programs and includes:

  • A checklist for anti-trafficking agencies to identify strengths and criticisms of their services
  • A set of indicators to define the conditions of women at the exit of the program and calculate an integration index
  • An interview format to collect qualitative information from the beneficiaries about the results of the integration process
  • A methodological guide for interviewers
  • A format for tracking

Guide on Non-Conventional Psychotherapeutic and Counseling Tools

Supporting the psychosocial well-being of women survivors of trafficking is a challenge that can affect the outcome of integration pathways. The New Worlds project has created a Guide to non-conventional psychotherapeutic and counseling tools for professionals working with women survivors of trafficking. This innovative guide, which will be distributed soon, includes practical tools based on:

  • Art therapy: painting, drawing and sculpture to accompany survivors in the expression of their emotions and experiences in a safe environment
  • Theater therapy: role play and storytelling exercises to allow survivors to explore their identities and experiences
  • Music therapy: Through the therapeutic effects of music, we work to improve mental health, reduce stress and increase emotional well-being
  • Mindfulness and relaxation techniques: practical exercises designed to help survivors manage stress and anxiety.

The project is co-founded by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) project of the European Union.
